Our story begins in 1935 with Bud Pupo building a small store on Bald St., across from the original Welland hospital. His brother, Joe Pupo, joined him as a butcher. Together they hand delivered flyers to homes in the area to introduce themselves.
1939 – Paul Pupo Sr., Bud and Joe’s younger brother, enters the business
1940 – The three Pupo brothers build a larger store next door to the original building and joined the Red and White grocery franchise.
1950s – Pupo’s once again becomes an independent supermarket.
1968 – Pupo’s Supermarket relocates one block south, to its present location at 195 Maple Avenue.
1980s – Paul Jr., Leonard and Jim Pupo assume management roles at the supermarket.
1987 – Pupo’s expands at its Maple Avenue location, adding an in-house bakery, and enlarging its deli and produce sections.
2000s – The third generation of Pupos–William, Mark, Justin and Jordan–take management roles in the business.
2023 – Pupo’s Supermarket celebrates its 88th year providing Welland and the Niagara Region with the finest quality meats, farm-fresh local produce, baked goods, specialty items and low-priced groceries.
